It is good that Euler thought of symbol pi for totient functions. In fact the simpler right triangles of 3,4,5 and 5,12,13 have the hypotenuse as primes. Euler put magic into his ideas and gave lesser mortals like us something to think with his totient function. And he was terrific too, because expressions of golden ratio and euler mascheroni constant were obtained with his totient equation.
P Kesava Menon took the totient function completely and believed in it completely and gave India an expression of tremendous significance.
